Creating Rock Candy and Crushing Cans

Experiments with heat and pressure that got these brilliant 5th graders using tongs and hot plates, and crushing cans with just heat and water! The curious kids also made their own lava lamps, toying with common acids and bases using water, oil, and Alka-Seltzer. In two weeks or less, they will even have their own rock-candy to enjoy, using their newfound knowledge of chemical reactions and crystallization.
